This task flow helps medical professionals securely and efficiently upload patient data via the Moberg Cloud platform.

This task flow helps medical professionals securely and efficiently upload patient data via the Moberg Cloud platform.

CONTEXT

CONTEXT

The data upload design follows familiar file management patterns. Users can upload data to any campus or location within their team, create new patient profiles, or add data to existing ones. Supported data types include Moberg data, Natus EEG data, and medication records.

Key features include a segmented progress bar, live status updates, and estimated time remaining. The status window can also collapse into a queue view. Users are informed to remove Protected Health Information (PHI) before uploading to ensure data security. This design makes data management easier, reduces errors, and helps medical professionals handle patient information with confidence.

The Challenge

Neuro ICU nurses and clinicians needed a clear and efficient way to upload and manage patient data within the Moberg Cloud Platform, which aggregates and harmonizes neuro ICU data for multimodal research and clinical trial management. Without a structured system, the process was time-consuming and prone to errors. Knowing the progress of their uploads was unclear, making it difficult to track files and access critical patient information quickly.

As the sole UI designer, I created the first iteration of a streamlined upload experience to improve workflow efficiency and reduce errors. Key UX improvements include a segmented progress bar, live status updates, and a collapsible queue for better visibility. Clear prompts ensure data security, making the process smoother and more reliable for medical professionals.

Research & Guiding Insights

To ensure the Moberg Cloud Platform’s upload system met the needs of neuro ICU professionals, I conducted stakeholder sessions with management, who are experts in the field and provided firsthand accounts of critical challenges. These discussions helped me understand user pain points, workflow inefficiencies, and essential requirements for a streamlined experience.

In addition to stakeholder insights, I conducted desk research on competitors, analyzing key features that were both present and missing in similar platforms. This allowed me to identify industry standards while uncovering opportunities for innovation, ensuring the solution was both comprehensive and user-friendly for medical professionals handling complex neuro ICU data.

Ensure intuitive workflow integration by aligning with familiar file management patterns.

Incorporate built-in safeguards to maintain data security and prevent errors.

Provide real-time visibility into upload progress to reduce uncertainty and frustration.

High Fidelity Prototype

As the sole designer in a fast-paced startup environment, I didn’t have the time for low to mid-fidelity prototyping, which I would normally use to explore layouts and refine early concepts. Instead, using the existing components library, I jumped straight into high-fidelity design. This approach allowed me to move quickly while maintaining consistency with the platform’s design system. I focused on creating a clear, intuitive interface that streamlined the upload process, ensuring users could easily track progress, manage files, and maintain data security without added complexity.

reflection

For my first work project in a field I was still getting used to and didn’t have a background in, I’m proud of how much I was able to accomplish. I tackled complex design challenges, adapted quickly, and did the best I could to create a functional and thoughtful solution. It was a huge learning experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have contributed in a meaningful way.

If I had more time, I would have worked more closely with the developers to create a pixel-perfect preview and ensure smoother implementation. There are still some UI tweaks needed to refine the design further. Since this project, Moberg has undergone an ongoing rebrand, so I would also update the visual design of the components and layout to align with the new branding.
